Newfoundland Pastry Recipe

Traditional Newfoundland Newfoundland Pastry Recipe

2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening

Combine dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. All enough water to make a stiff dough. Roll out to fit over roast. Brush with milk. Place back in 350 deg. oven for approximately 15-20 minutes or until nicely browned.

Pastry (Recipie #2)

2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 lb. butter or margarine
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup cold water

Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in butter. Add water gradually, tossing with a fork. Roll out and cover rabbit/flippers and vegetables in roasting pan. Brush top with milk or egg white if you like.
