A New Chapter for Newfoundland.ws
Dear friends,
For many years, Traditional Newfoundland Recipes has been a warm and familiar gathering place a digital kitchen where people from near and far came to reconnect with the tastes, memories, and traditions of home. Whether you dropped by for a Jiggs Dinner refresher, a batch of toutons on a Sunday morning, or simply to feel closer to the island you grew up on, you helped turn the site into something truly special. It became more than a recipe collection; it became a shared space of nostalgia, culture, and community.
Today, we want to share an important update about where we’re headed.
The original site has been shut down but only so we can build something bigger, broader, and more meaningful for the future. This isn’t an ending. It’s the beginning of a new chapter, one that honors everything we’ve shared so far while expanding into the deeper story of Newfoundland and its people.
What’s Coming Next
Over the next few months, we’ll be rebuilding and relaunching the site at the same familiar URL:
When we return, the site will grow into a more complete celebration of Newfoundland’s identity not just the food we love, but the history, stories, and family roots that shape who we are. Here’s a glimpse of what’s on the horizon:

📜 Newfoundland History
We’ll be diving into the rich and rugged past of our province from the earliest settlements to the defining moments that shaped our culture. Expect stories of resilience, local legends, timelines of major events, and explorations of the traditions that make Newfoundland unlike anywhere else in the world. Whether you’re a lifelong learner or simply curious about the place you call home, this section will offer a deeper connection to our shared heritage.
🌳 Newfoundland Genealogy
Many Newfoundlanders, both on the island and across the globe, are searching for their roots. We’ll be offering guides, resources, surname histories, and insights to help you trace your family’s story. From outport records to wartime archives, we want to make it easier for you to explore where you come from and understand the generations that came before you.
🍽️ And Yes A Few Newfoundland Recipes
Food will always be part of our identity, and we’re not leaving it behind. You’ll still find traditional dishes the ones that bring comfort, spark memories, and remind us of Nan’s kitchen. But now, these recipes will be woven into a larger tapestry of Newfoundland culture, showing how food connects to our history, our families, and our way of life.
Why the Change?
Newfoundland’s story is far too big to fit into one category. Our island is shaped by centuries of hardship, humor, music, migration, and community and we want the new site to reflect that full picture. By expanding beyond recipes, we’re creating a place where visitors can learn, explore, and reconnect with the culture that shaped them. Whether you’re researching your ancestors, rediscovering forgotten traditions, or simply looking to feel closer to home, we want Newfoundland.ws to be a place that welcomes you in and invites you to stay awhile.
Stay Tuned
We’re hard at work behind the scenes, building something we hope will make you proud. Over the coming months, we’ll be preparing the new site, gathering stories, organizing resources, and shaping a space that honors Newfoundland’s past while celebrating its future.
Check back soon the kettle will be on, and we’ll be ready to welcome you home again.
Thank you for your support, your patience, and your love for Newfoundland heritage. See you again at https://newfoundland.ws in the coming months.
